According to the great Steve Jobs, you can never just ask your customer what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get the product built, they would want something new. This stands true for every market in the recent times. The current business environment and the economic market is so volatile and dynamic that you would never really know when a certain trend changes and the customer preferences change. Unlike the earlier days, it doesn’t take enough time for the tastes and preferences to change when it comes to the habits of the consumers. In this day and age, you need to have an ‘ideal customer’ profile for your business. In simpler words, you need to be clear as to who you want to cater and what section of the society is ideal for your business. There is a customer waiting for every business. Good marketing makes it easy for these customers to find suitable businesses. Over time, as you build a set database with the information you have already acquired from your marketing campaigns, it also becomes a lot easier for the businesses to find such customers. As a business, your ideal customer profile would include variable such as age, location, income, hobbies, interests and occupation. All these geographic, psychographic and demographic factors combine to form this profile. Once you have marketed to hundreds or even thousands of customers, look at your data and search for patterns and characteristics that you could use to profile your ideal customer. The more you can learn about the people you would be dealing with as your customers, the better it is for you as a business. Have a habit of using polls and surveys to learn more about what your customers are looking for and also use their data to target your marketing campaigns in a better way. Open Google Analytics and find the regions where your business achieves the highest conversion rate.
Always keep in mind not to make products fully based on the feedback of your customers. That is a recipe of failure. However, always dig deep into the data you have been generating from your online marketing campaigns and spot trends as well as details that you can use to hone in on the type of people that matter the most to you in the business.
